Acai berries gaining in popularity in India, internet groups warn about scams

The “acai berry weight loss” trend in United States has gone down over the past couple of years. In the mid 2000s, the craze for acai berries was so high as these super fruits were linked to weight loss and marketed as an alternative way to lose weight. The acai berry businesses earned millions of dollars in revenue in very less time.

Acai berries are good fruits. They are known for their antioxidant properties which are good for health. But acai berry benefits are always falsely advertized. Acai businesses marketed acai berries as weight loss products, which no prominent scientific research has confirmed till the date.

Acai berry scams are rampant in US a couple of years ago. From fake acai supplements to credit card stealing, a number of scams ripped off people for millions of dollars.

With federal agencies in US acting strong on the acai berry scams, some of the acai berry sellers are looking at India to market their products.

“We already see the acai berry trend growing in India. There’s a significant size of overweight people in the country, especially the working class people, who are looking at the options like acai supplements to lose weight,” said Gaurav Jain, a Hyderabad City based fitness expert.

The consumer watchdog groups in India are warning people about the possible scams and frauds involved in online acai berry businesses. They are advising the common people to research about the products, and companies in the internet before buying anything from them.
